Privacy Policy
Last updated October 1, 2026
Shotie is made by Clownio. This policy explains what information we handle when you visit shotie.app, buy Shotie, and use the app — and what we don’t. The short version: your screenshots, apps and code stay on your Mac, and we only keep what we need to sell you a license and let it work.
The app works on your Mac
Your library — apps, sets, pages, copy, styles, uploads and renders — is stored on your Mac (in ~/Library/Application Support/Shots) and is never uploaded to us. Shotie has no analytics or tracking inside the app.
The app connects to the internet only for these things:
- Apple’s public App Store lookup, when you paste an App Store link, to fetch the app’s name, icon and developer.
- Our license server, to activate your license and to check it about twice a day (see “Your license” below).
- The AI tool you choose (Claude Code, Codex CLI or Gemini CLI), when you use the AI features — see “AI features”.
AI features
Generating screenshots and the editor’s chat run through an AI coding tool that you install and sign in to yourself, under your own account with Anthropic, OpenAI or Google. Shotie starts that tool on your Mac and lets it read your app’s code and the screenshot being edited; it cannot change your files. What the tool sends to its provider is governed by that provider’s terms and privacy policy, not ours. We never receive your code, prompts or the AI’s replies.
Buying Shotie
Purchases are processed by Stripe. Through Stripe Managed Payments, Stripe sells Shotie to you as the merchant of record: it takes the payment, works out and collects any sales tax or VAT, and sends your receipts. Stripe’s privacy policy applies to the information you give it at checkout.
From Stripe we receive your name, email address, billing country and address, which plan you bought, and whether your subscription is active. We never see your full card number.
Your license
Your license key is tied to your Stripe customer record. When you activate a Mac, the app sends the key and a device identifier — a one-way hash of that Mac’s hardware ID, which can’t be turned back into the ID — and we store the identifier on your customer record, so one license can run on up to three Macs. The app sends the same two things when it checks in. Nothing else about your Mac, and no information about you, is sent.
Deactivating a Mac in Shotie’s Settings removes its identifier straight away.
Emails
We email your license key after you buy, and again if you ask for it with “Forgot your key?”. These emails are sent through Resend. We don’t send marketing emails and don’t share your address with anyone for marketing.
This website
shotie.app uses Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that we run ourselves. It sets no cookies and collects no personal information: only aggregate counts such as which pages were viewed, which buttons were clicked, the referring site, and your browser, device type and country. The site stores one cookie of its own, remembering the language you chose. There are no advertising or third-party trackers.
Who handles your information
Each handles only what its job needs. We don’t sell your information, and we don’t share it except with these providers or where the law requires it.
- Stripe — payments, tax, receipts and subscription management.
- Cloudflare — hosts the license server.
- Resend — sends license emails.
- Our own server — hosts this website and its analytics.
How long we keep it
Purchase records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Device identifiers stay until you deactivate that Mac or ask us to remove them. Website analytics are aggregate and contain nothing that identifies you.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it (except what we must keep by law), and you can object to how we use it. Get in touch through clownio.com/contact. If you’re in the EU, the UK or a similar jurisdiction, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Shotie isn’t directed at children under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be pointed out on this site.
